About Do You Mind?
Artists respond to matters of the mind
Do You Mind? was an exhibition that took place in late July 2010, accompanied by a limited edition publication of new artwork based on research projects specific to the Centre for Brain Research at the University of Auckland.
The exhibition was open to the public and comprised of nearly 40 original artworks created through 15 facilitated partnerships between artists and neuroscience researchers from the Centre.
The challenge specific to the researchers was to provide direct information and vital inspiration pertaining to the subject, purpose and process of their work. The challenge specific to the artists was to interpret and respond to the work of their research partners in a creative capacity. The timeframe from first introduction of partners to artwork submission was 8 weeks.
The envisioned result was an exhibition of new and engaging artworks and a detailed publication pushing the boundaries of the interaction between research and creative engagement. It was anticipated that the project would stimulate a new level of awareness of the brain research currently underway at the Centre for Brain Research, captivating fresh audiences for both research and art in the city of Auckland.
Exhibition ran 29th July - 7th August, Tuesday - Sunday (10am - 4pm).
Supreme Saturday included free coffee courtesy of Supreme Coffee from 11am - 3pm on Saturday 31st July.
Exclusive event opening was held 28th July 2010.
