Artist David McClunie visited neuroscientist Jane Evans yesterday. She talked him through her lab, and showed him her brain tissue sections. Jane is interested in studying the stressed brain; in particular the influences that stress can have upon stem cells (new born cells) in the brain.

The brain region Jane is most interested in is the hippocampus which was named from greek words meaning “horse” and “sea monster”, due to a similarity to a sea horse observed in it’s structure. The hippocampus is important to long-term memory and spatial navigation.
