Mei Cooper was given a pair of gloves and a lab coat when she joined Pritika Narayan in her lab. Pritika studies epigenetic changes in neurodegenerative diseases. These include chemical modifications to protein molecules that DNA wraps around, and how changes in these modifications (e.g. in disease) may influence the expression of genes.
Pritika and Mei looked at a technique used in the lab called western blotting, which these images are from. Pritika also often uses a high-throughput image analysis system that uses algorithms to process her microscope images to obtain data.
